If you leave your house and do practically anything at all this weekend, anywhere in the United States, you will be benefiting the victims of hurricane Katrina. In San Francisco alone, there are nearly 40 different events and fundraisers, not including the ones in nightclubs. And every nightclub in town is doing a benefit this weekend as well.
You know, it must suck to be a DJ right about now. It would be one thing if they donated their time and forfeited their fees for a single appearance, but most likely every gig they have booked for a three-week period is going to be a benefit show. They're probably not going to get paid for any of their efforts during this whole time. So most DJs will contribute hundreds of dollars of what would normally have been their income to the cause.
That just doesn't seem fair. DJs have to pay the rent and eat and buy drugs just like everybody else. DJs are generous people by nature, but how much can we possibly ask of them?
Oh God! Won't someone please think of the DJs?
I think we should have a nightclub benefit to benefit the DJs who are victims of the victims of hurricane Katrina. You know, as a way of thanking them for helping us to help others in need when they're in need as well.
But on the other hand, who would we get to spin?
